Dear Friends of Aerie,
Aerie hearts are heavy this week. It is with tremendous sorrow that we inform you of the death of Aerie’s longtime advisor and our beloved teacher, mentor, and friend Lorilee Evans-Lynn. Lorilee passed away on Friday September 23, 2016 in Mount Vernon, WA following a short but aggressive battle with cancer.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday October 5, from 7-8:30PM at the UC Ballroom at The University of Montana in Missoula. Lorilee’s radiant personality, intense revision notes, and loud singing will be missed in Room 44 at Big Sky High School and this week our hearts are with Lorilee’s family and friends.
The Aerie Magazine program is reeling from an enormous loss as we prepare for Aerie International’s tenth year, but we are committed to honoring Lorilee’s tenacity and passion as we move forward this year. Past Aerie members, please know that our doors are always open. We hope you will write and visit and share your wisdom and your memories with us. Board members and friends, thank you for your support of this program from the beginning. We need you now more than ever. Lorilee created a family in this classroom and that still exists here. If there’s anything we have learned from Lorilee during her time with us, it is this: Words Matter.
We are grateful to Lorilee Evans-Lynn for giving so many young writers a home and establishing a community to support them. Thank you for being our community.
