Submissions for Volume VI totaled 285 works of poetry, prose and visual art. The Oval Staff have watched anxiously as your submissions dinged in over the last 5 months and there are some fantastic materials out there! We can’t wait to really dig in.
Looks like the poets won the battle of most submissions this year with an impressive 123 poems or 43% of out total 285. UM’s artists came in second with 91 photographs, paintings, pieces of digital media and just plain cool, thought-provoking visuals. Prose battled it out, but sided with the fictionists over our writers of truth (42-28).
Don Marquis explained that “Publishing a volume of verse is like dropping a rose petal down the Grand Canyon and waiting for the echo.” We hope to get a digital echo in your inbox right around spring break.
Thank you for your submissions. You guys are the ones who make putting out a UM exclusive undergraduate literary magazine work. Rock on UM.
